Surrogate Mother

Dedicated to, Jody, the best sister anyone could have!

The trap of better than you

Our parents had fallen in

Both working to see us through

Like rat running race to win

Two incomes to stave off fears

Their children wanting naught

Save the passing adolescent years

Their presence needed and sought

My mother is all I hoped to find

When home with illness I lay

Yet sent another so giving and kind

My physician for the day

Attendant to a little boy

Her love easily compared

To matriarchal woman of birth

The womb that we had shared

My sister’s love, full of grace

My comfort and fears console

And put the smile on my face

She donned the mother’s role

She cared and fawned over me

As if I were her own

Giving so unsparingly

Love felt in every bone

Blessed am I this surrogate

For Mother’s missing love

A sister only by some fate

True blessing from above

If I could pick from anyone

If I could choose another

I could not pick a better one

As loving surrogate mother

So sweet.blessings to ur loving sister and her doting brother.

  2. Wonderful writing Brad, your blessed to have her as your sister and guardian angel. If God takes one, gives another who’s even better. That one person is better and enough than many whom we are not sure off.

  3. I’m not as easily moved to tears as I once was, but this surely brought tears to my eyes. You shared a room with me from the moment you came home from the hospital, so maternal instinct kicked in. I don’t recall that I ever doted on you then, but I’m guilty of that now! You have always been my favorite brother and, in these last years, my confidante, my best friend, and my hero. It is I who has been blessed by you!

I’m not sure I’m worthy of these accolades, but my beloved brother thinks I am!

Thank you so much Yeka! I am happy to know it brought fond memories of Champ for you. But it is I who am blessed by our meeting.
