War Torn

We do not know how we would fair

A world so unlike our own

One day our home is standing there

Now rubble and rocks all thrown

Amidst a fight we did not choose

Watching loved ones die each day

The battle we are forced to lose

For humanity will have no stay

Thrust upon us this horrid war

Lives cast in blood and sand

Can we ever hope something more

Salvation but prayer in weak hand

This the lot drawn for us now

A scorched and abandoned place

If we could only escape somehow

A return of some absent grace

Come now child, we must leave

No time for tears have we

Our lives have been given heave

We set sail on unknown sea

I hope that where eโ€™er we go

We find that elusive peace

More kindness will this world know

If ever this hatred should cease

Could we suffer a more damning fate

Than a world filled with death and strife

Where men engaged in rampant hate

Thrust swords into our life

  1. Moving words and unseen truth Brad, we can see all their pains and despair, they are the victims of the war they didn’t start or want it. You should try to publish this on other sites.

Thank you Shanti! Submitting my work for publication elsewhere is very challenging for me. I don’t know where to even begin to be honest. It is a hurdle I need to learn to get over, but I am not there yet. Thank you for your encouragement!

Thank you dearest Meena! Maybe I will submit it to Spillwords Press, but I do not have any other experience in submitting my work for other publications. Maybe one day I will get better at that. Thanks again and blessings to you and the boys!

great poem! war makes no sense, and the decisions to go to war are usually made by people who are not directly engaged in the battles.
