Chatty Colleague

They say a little knowledge is

dangerous and that is well true.

Given man’s true nature and his

jumping off without a first clue.

So, ignorance is the real bliss

and a much easier done task.

Then give no weight to what you miss

and be careful what you then ask.

Be a bit less inquisitive.

Stop putting between us this strife.

Be less involved in how I live

and get on about your own life.

Interest shown is just pretend.

It’s nosiness that is inspired.

If answers given may offend

then you should not have inquired.

Do not use me for measurement

of where your love of self may hide.

You will think you learned some intent,

not knowing that I really lied.

I tell you what I want you to know,

just very little in the end.

If later a real bond should grow,

I’ll tell you more as a true friend.

But for now, please just leave me be

and save me from the stories rife

with treasured pictured legacy

and the bitching about your wife.

everyone’s interest or concern isn’t pretence dear.
    Great advice conveyed beautifully.

Thank you Meena! I agree that not everyone who shows some interest does so as a pretense, but others feign an interest in hearing about you as an opening to talk about themselves. It is some times hard to discern.

Amen to literally all of this!
