Ode to a Rhyme

I wonder how hard it would be

For each line to end beautifully

With words that rhyme most verily

With the long sound of the vowel ‘e’

It would be a rare sight to see

Words woven by fine stitchery

In a singular rhyming spree

Causing verbal monotony

So, set out did I with great glee

To explore possibility

As real learning is never free

Though the work is a drudgery

Like layers of a BLT

I stack the rhymed lines so neatly

No emotion given sweetly

Just a sound heard repeatedly

I think that we can all agree

Experiment gone horribly

But now with a grand mastery

I can give a final decree

Say unapologetically

And rather categorically

Yes, even academically

It’s hard like trigonometry

  1. That took some amazing talent! And, in the end, it made me giggle as well!

I had writer’s block and it started out as a goof. Then I got stuck in the rhyme and struggled to find a way out. Not my best work, but it was entertaining to find my answer to the pretense of the first line. Glad you got a chuckle from it!

sounds like a Dr. Seuss book, and that is the highest praise I can offer! Probably not many poems have both “BLT” and trigonometry in it… 🙂
