The Dark Places
It is a very dark place
A hidden, haunted space
The depth of the mind
Where solace is hard to find
Where ancient fears reside
And dreams of the denied
Hopes burnt in black flame
Where evil earns its name
For some it is a tiny hole
Just a speck upon the soul
For others, a massive cave
Where the light is not so brave
Nothing will draw near
Pulled in, the rampant fear
Then paying the great cost
Of forever being lost
And just trying to avoid
This deep and vacant void
Seems a formidable task
Just too much for one to ask
As if being here a choice
Shouting back at ghostly voice
Begging for the light again
But the depth won’t let it in
It is a long and hard climb
One that takes some time
To glimpse that dot of light
Hoped end to this long night
“The depth of the mind, Where solace is hard to find”—powerful and chilling. It’s like the forbidden fruit.
Thank you, Pete! The mind is a terrible thing to taste. 😁😊
This is inspiring – flows well and like the analogy of dark caves and mind
Thank you for reading and commenting!
This is very powerful! Being trapped in ones own mind is scary sometimes.
Thank you, Kristian! May you always find your light…🔥
Quite a strong and thrilling poetry. I can say for sure getting lost in the darkness of mind is a very scary experience
Thank you, V! May you always find your light!
I can picture (and hear) Rod Serling reading this at the start of Twilight Zone…
That all the praise anyone could need! Thanks Jim!
