How Do I Know?

You say that you love me

But how am I to know

The words are so easy

These little seeds we sow

If they fall with no care

And are left unattended

They fall on soil bare

Even if unintended

If not watered or fed

By the things you do

Then I am easily led

To see them as untrue

Words are not action

No matter how bold

For love to find traction

Actions must feed the soul

Nurture this fragile heart

In all you say and do

Them I will surely start

To see your words are true

  1. This is such a wonderful poem. Words can have greater meanings, but love can be felt by unexpressed words as well.

  2. meenawalia says:

It has to be the combination of both.words soothe the soil and actions express the depth of love

  3. petespringerauthor says:

I love the sentiments of this piece, Brad. Words can be hollow, especially if one’s actions don’t follow suit. I suppose that’s a commentary on today’s political state as well.

  4. Jim Borden says:

it reminds me of a post I had read earlier; I can’t remember if it was one of yours or not. But it had to do with the difference between saying “love you” and “I love you”. The second form seems so much more intimate…
