A Gwawdodyn For Gwendolyn
I asked of the King, what must be done
That in the end, maiden’s heart be won
I would ask of you, the dragon subdue
Before the setting of the next sun
I started that day on my love’s quest
I would slay that dragon, pass the test
I would have her hand, by royal command
And in her arms, I would find my rest
I came upon the dragon sleeping
My sword held high, I began creeping
As I drew near, I saw a single tear
And now the promise not worth keeping
How much do I want this lovely wife
If to have her I must take a life
Love will not be found on this bloodied ground
Real love would never cause this much strife
And when to King this story be told
Came the rebuke for being so bold
Forego lover for life of another
Not like brave knights in stories of old
Though the King’s demands were held at bay
The maiden married me any way
And my caring heart is parcel and part
Of why we’re still together today
I love this Brad!! It takes much more courage to disobey the King’s orders than slay a dragon anyway. Plus, I like dragons!! lol!!
Who doesn’t love dragons? That is assuming they are not intent on eating you. Thank you for all your support Kristian!
Answer me, what is that you cannot write? I love Arthurian legend, the great wizard merlin dragons etc. You have written this so beautifully. You are awesome Brad, from now on you are my sire!
That is quite the high honor, Vinayak! I thank you for your kind words and constant support, though I think I am undeserving of such high praise. I am but a humble knight, fighting in arms with brother knights like your self. 🗡
King Arthur was first a night but a king too, some people earn a decree. I admire your poetry without doubt and there is lots to learn. Keep up the good work Sire
Thank you, kind sir!
Wonderful
Thank you, Ms. G!
great poem, Brad. I’m a sucker for a happy ending. And the timing was interesting, we went to Universal Studios today and one of the rides featured Shrek battling a dragon!
Coincidence or clairvoyance? We may neve know. Glad you are all getting out and having fun! Thanks Jim!
and one of the best parts of the day was no lines; many times we simply walked right to the front of the line.
