Buying Salvation

What deeds will you lie before pearly gate

Hoping to buy a more heavenly fate

When were the times you gave of yourself

To gain the promise of spiritual wealth

And whom did you help, when they be down trod

So vision may behold the face of God

When did you choose to do with so much less

That, in the end, you should be so well-blessed

How oft did you choose to really show care

To give only because the need was there

Without some reward as the driving force

Charity used to chart soulโ€™s final course

We are held to account when turned to dust

Seen by how we treated the least of us

By all means, you should avoid any sins

But charity where salvation begins
