Living On the Edge

We must rail against what is normal

Push the boundaries in every way

Do not succumb to a given formal

In anything that we do or say

The well-honed blade of any knife

Is what makes the deepest cuts

And to live a full and colorful life

We must avoid all the easy buts

Cast aside any preconceived notion

To find something more set free

Set sail on the unexplored ocean

Search out among the lesser seas

There you will find all things new

And with a bit of creativity

You may find something more true

In a world full of possibility

Following behind another

Makes the path easier, I agree

But the joy of a trailblazer

Is not found in conformity

Make being different a sacred pledge

Or creativity will meet its doom

For if you are not living on the edge

Then you are taking up too much room

I love this! Such a wonderful message to be content with who we are & to allow our differences to shine! It’s what sets us a part from other artists. Perfectly said!

Great job, Brad. Loved the last two lines. I need to stop taking up so much room…

  4. It was inspiring and really reading your poems somehow reminds me of the golden past, you know Wordsworth and all. Somehow I find your writing style a bit of their time, and that’s why they’re even more interesting to read. Really enjoying your poems. Would love to see how you pen down this current pandemic situation with your style of writing.

Thank you, Shounak, for your lovely comment. I would agree that my poetry has a taste of old school. Likely because I grew up reading the classics. You will find some pandemic related poems in my archive and I believe I have a few yet to publish. I appreciate all your support!

I love the sentiments expressed in this piece, Brad. Innovation, finding one’s own path, and daring to dream are all things I took from your poem.

Thank you, Pete! I love to hear what people’s impressions are as a way of determining if I had hit the mark in what I was trying to express. I appreciate your time and all your support!

  6. My dearest Brad, what a beautiful poem.

“Set sail on the unexplored ocean
Search out among the lesser seas”

Sail with me among the lesser seas
