Tuesday Tidbits #23
Welcome to the limited series, Tuesday Tidbits. A collection of quotes to provide inspiration, determination, and elevation. I hope you find something that brightens your day!
It is a fantastic feeling to have something you have written create a following. But it is also where expectations begin to play a part in our efforts. At some point, the readers may be expecting more than you have left to give. This is the boon and bane for any writer.
Power is often hiding in the things we do not have. Hope stems from the want for something, as yet, unrealized. And what is more powerful than hope? Do not let absence take the place of possibility.
Poetry is like construction. There is a need for a solid foundation. Its structure must be able to withstand any of the elements. Pretty words and wishful thoughts may decorate the outside, but without a good foundation it will wither, fade, and fall into disrepair through time.
The first question I would ask any poet is, what their favorite poem by another poet is. If they don’t have one, I may well question their desire to be a poet.
There is no magic to the powerful and beautiful words you read of others. There may be plenty of time, work, sweat, tears, frustration, love, and stubbornness in there, but no magic. You have all the tools you need for your words to be just as powerful and beautiful.
You know you have worked long and hard on something when, by the time it is completed, you have it memorized.
You can’t write poetry? If you wrote two lines to a poem each day, the week would end with enough for a sonnet. If you wrote just one line a day, it would be enough for a Rondelet. If you wrote only three words each day, it would be more than enough for a Haiku at the end of the week. Don’t tell me you can’t, when what you mean is you won’t!
Now get out there and write something!
Fantastic post… Couldn’t agree more with you!
Thank you, Singh!
It definitely takes hard work and lots of work. You certainly have to stick with it. You are so right Brad. I need alone time when I write. It is difficult for me to be around anyone when I write. I jot down inspirational thoughts I have off and on when I am not alone and then see if I have anything latter. Good advice my friend. Hope you have a great day. Sending love 💕 and hugs. ❤️🤗from Jonikins
Thank you, Jonikins! 💖
My pleasure. Have a great day Brad. Stay safe. Hugs 🤗 Joni
I love the first quote. That’s so true, isn’t it? When expectations begin to creep in you can very easily find yourself writing for all the wrong reasons. Perhaps writing down the context in a note beforehand or afterwards is helpful in remembering the “why”.
Agreed. Thank you for reading and commenting!
Great post Brad! As always, I look forward to this limited series. I think you’ve, once again, given us a lot of wisdom…thank you!
All the best,
Francisco
Thank you, my friend!
My pleasure Brad!
So what is your favorite poem? And one benefit, from my perspective at least, form having followers is that they are a way of holding you accountable, to make sure you are doing your writing…
Great quotes again, Brad!
My favorite is “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night”, by Dylan Thomas. IT reminds me to wrestle every ounce out of life while I can. Thanks, Jim!
That is one of my favorite poems as well, but I’m only pulling from about 20 poems I might know… I’m happy to know I’m in good company!
I love these! all tell it like it is, and offer a no excuses approach. I especially. loved the “you can’t write poetry?” quote
Sometimes things just look harder than they really are. Thanks for all your support, Beth!
I have a lot of questions after reading this. And the last one reverted me to you know when. Thought provoking really, all of your tidbits are but there’s one here in particular that had me rethink. Great set, Brad
Thanks, Matt! Glad they struck you in a positive way. I appreciate all your support!
I love all of these, so much!!
Thank you, dear Kristian! Your comments always make my day!
Some good stuff in there!
Thank you, Mr. Gilbert!
Everything is wonderful. But I am taking this one “Power is often hiding in the things we do not have. Hope stems from the want for something, as yet, unrealized. And what is more powerful than hope? Do not let absence take the place of possibility.”
xoxo
It is all yours, Gabriela! 🌹
