A writer’s words are not pushed onto the page by sheer dogged determination. They fall with the letting go of thought, where words are released like summer’s rain.
Usually our first foray into poetry is in grade school. Young minds are asked to read and recognize the work of famous poets, whose subjects and talents are awash in the life experiences and practice of their art. It is where many fall out of love with verse, having little reference to the concepts they are asked to digest.
I enjoy a quiet place to write. But I fear a particular silence. The one that comes when that little voice in mind head ceases and the words stop.
I think about a million things. But often, I do not fully understand how I feel about them until I see my own words in ink. Distillation into permanence creates beliefs.
Writing is not just about the words. There is a beauty that lies within the places the letters are not. The properly placed line break, emphasis of punctuation, or pause of graphic spacing can greatly add to the essence of a composition.
Our words do not always directly impact the reader. Sometimes they are the butterfly on the wind. Meandering tirelessly and beautifully before landing in places we never imagined.
Now get out there and write something!

good point about learning about poetry in grade school, and I think that is exactly what happened to me. Poetry never really did much forme until the past couple of years when I started discovering poets like you on the web. As a result, I wish I had paid more attention back then. The objective with poetry when I was in school was to memorize the lines, but the meaning seemed irrelevant.
And I agree that writing things down makes us better understand how we feel about things..
