Great Friends

We only succumb to the hidden woes

The trials and pains that no one knows

We think that none will truly care

So, these things we do not share

Is pride the reason we remain mute?

As troubles find soil and thus take root

If our tribulations remain unspoken

Then our problems remain unbroken

I know you want that inner strength

But when troubled for time at length

It then becomes even harder to

See the people that are there for you

There to laugh and share good times

But I read your face between the lines

I see the weight that bears on you

And wonder what I can hopeful do

To me, a friend you have always been

And I, one to you, if you let me in

In the times when there is great need

A great friend, to you, I will be indeed

  1. It is such an added joy to my life that, in addition to being a beloved and loving brother, you are also exactly the friend you describe here. However, just a word to the wise….. people will become more vulnerable and open with us when they see us struggling as well. When someone appears to “always have their shit together”, people who don’t will tend to feel like that person couldn’t begin to comprehend or understand.

The beauty of friendship is it requires us to be there for others while not being too prideful to accept their help when we need it.

  7. One of the most valuable things anyone can have in this life is a good friend. Good people, good friends are the blessings that make life wonderful. I am proud to call you my friend, Brad. Great poem, great writing! All the best!
