Language of the Land

Of course, there is still great bigotry

We have hated throughout our history

The indigenous sent to reservations

The decimation of an entire nation

American born treated like tramps

In our Japanese internment camps

When slavery was to be abolished

Jim Crow laws were crafted and polished

The loving ones resisted by heated shove

Based solely judged on whom they love

Every ethnic witch hunt for colored hue

Where different meets an unfair due

The taxed territories who pay by rote

But we withhold their right to vote

And the lives we kill in prison cells

A hatred we must all see too well

Met by force with harming intent

We hate the words of any dissent

And the language of the land

Become the measure of the man

Sad, but true. Sometimes I wonder who i’d be if I internalized all the lessons i’ve been taught by our so-called leaders’ actions instead of rejecting them reflexively. But then I look around me these days and wonder no more.

wow, this one is so achingly sad and shows how history has repeated itself, over and over again. when will we learn to respect all of humanity?

Great stuff. It must be put into a school curriculum where kids can read this.

a sad commentary on human nature.

I’m curious if there is a link between the photo and the poem…

How many times throughout history can we still be making the same mistakes?
