Immortality

~~~
I knew that you would come in time
Robed boatsman on black Stygian float
But I, not ready to leave this life of mine
I have no desire to get on your boat
~~~
And should it blow, the last trumpet call
And I am summoned to my final fate
I’ll tell God, in front of angels all
I’d rather live than pass pearly gate
~~~
I will not beg, bow, or willing go
I will not cooperate in any way
No matter who you send, they should know
I am not dying here today
~~~
I have fought for life these long years
Now seems not the time to quit
Death plays upon my greatest fears
And I will have none of it
~~~
So precious to me, this life I save
In the end, you will have the final say
But as you drag me to the promised grave
I will be kicking and screaming all the way
~~~

While I am totally on the ‘other side of the fence’ with my feelings on death, this is very well written, and it is my hope that you’ll continue fighting – at least until after I’ve lost the fight!
Fighting is what I do best! Love you sis!
Don’t go easy
Somehow I never pick the easy way for anything.
Me either!
Here’s to not giving up without a fight.
Thank you Shweta! Life is worth fighting for!
A good depiction of the fight a mortal soul puts before summoned by the inevitable death. But no one can no this better than you my friend, we never truly die so in any sense we are immortals just not the way we probably want as one physical identity. A well written piece my friend, each piece of yours shares a deep sense of understanding of this world .
Thank you, Vinayak! Our bodies may die and whither but we are never really gone. I so appreciate all your support!
This makes me think of cancer victims. If health that unfortunate hand, I’d like to think I’d keep fighting for my family as much as myself.
A beautiful perspective, Pete! Thanks for all your support!
do not go gentle into that good night…
My favorite of all poems and certainly the inspiration to this piece. Thanks, Jim!
I thought I remember you telling me that was your favorite poem!
A very well written poem and message…death is fascinating as well as definitive so it always creates a sense of wonder…
Thank you, Francisco! I love your perspective on things!
You are very welcome, it’s my pleasure and thank you my friend!
