Because I am a published poet, I cannot list where I work on any of my social media accounts, without including a disclaimer that states the views are wholly my own and do not represent the views of my employer. I will not allow any disclaimers to my creative work, as I believe in free speech. I will, however, list myself as self-employed, as I have always seen my employment with any company as my choice, not theirs. Problem solved. Fuck your disclaimer!
With a nickel, I could not buy a hungry person anything to eat. But five cents worth of ink and paper can feed a mind for a lifetime.
Poetry is to life what music is to dance. It is where the inspiration is found to move us in joyful ways.
Yes, I love the old, classic forms of poetry. They were the nursemaid to the words of the great poets of the past. But I also think some of our best art is when we color outside the lines.
Because I write, I call myself a writer. But it is a hobby, not a profession. I have not earned one cent from my work. It may be more accurate to say I tried to write but was unsuccessful. And I can live with that, as trying is all that really matters anyway.
The easiest way to fall out of love with something you have written is to read it over and over again with a critical eye. Sometimes you must let it sit and rest. Allow time to add the patina that shows you work in a different light and allows your eyes to see things anew.
Sometimes I feel like I am chasing a thought. Words trickle out like a leak from a bucket, but not enough to wet the page. I chase small breadcrumbs in search of a loaf of bread. These are the most trying times in writing. A worded hunger teased mercilessly by noun and verb.

In absence of money or attention, the only motivation for making art is passion or love, for yourself, for others, for the world, and for life. You may struggle, but the dividend for that struggle will favor the work and no one can question your motivations.

These are some of my favorites Brad. I love your disclaimer, chasing breadcrumbs and I think many of us relate to not making money on our work.
