Elasticity
~~~
It is not a quantitative matter
It is but a construct of the mind
Like children pulling on salt-water taffy
Life rebels against rigid time
~~~
Feeling like forever, the little moments
Like an expectant drip of honey from the comb
Can stop time in its stalwart passing
Defying what science decrees is known
~~~
These timeless tricks played on us
Like the stretch of cool breeze on summer’s day
The magical moments of interlude
Found in the minutes that never decay
~~~
Like a sailor’s long stare to the horizon blue
Like the stranded moments waiting for that call
Like an elongated silence before the needle drops
Like a lover’s kiss and sweet lips that stall
~~~
Like the hold of dusk as day drags to night
Like a scent that freezes a faint memory
Like seconds pooled and sparkling clear
Like a lingering now that never leaves
~~~
Spare me your physics of space and time
Some arbitrary counting of passing days
I have seen moments stretch into millennia
Regardless of what the science says
~~~
And what is even lesser known
A truth that is much more sound
Within these timeless moments given
The best times of our lives are found
~~~
“Spare me your physics of space and time
Some arbitrary counting of passing days
I have seen moments stretch into millennia
Regardless of what the science says.”
These thoughts, these words are so, so true, I agree one hundred percent though I am a lover of science and respectful of science, almost all the time, but not one hundred percent of the time. Science itself is a way of opening up to different possibilities, of conjuring un-imagined things…Brilliant my friend and a lovely read.
All the best,
F.
Thank you my good friend!
My pleasure my friend!
Brad, this is a fantastic piece. The duality of time
“Like children pulling on salt-water taffy
Life rebels against rigid time”
Wow!
Bravo. Sending plenty of love.
Thank kind Poetess! Sending big hugs in return!
I got them. Thank you 🌹
Mmmmmm……. salt water taffy. 😉 Love this one, dearest Brad! What you have described are those magic moments, and I’ve always thought magic is just science we haven’t proved. Exquisite!
What a beautiful way to look at the unexplained, Kristian. Thank you so much!
Excellent poem Brad ! Vivid imagination 👍🤝
Thank you kind sir!
