Port of Call
~~~
Sailors seen as a lustful sort
Beautiful girl in every port
On ocean blue you quickly learn
Not every ship promised return
~~~
So, we make hay while the sun shines
Spend land-locked nights in love’s entwine
We seek love where and when we can
Bane of life to seafaring man
~~~
Brave men so tan, so strong and true
Muscular frames wrapped in navy blue
Eyes that have seen a larger world
Can turn the head of local girls
~~~
The island inks that paint our arms
Our quiet strength and worldly charms
For all our raucous, rowdy noise
The innocent maids love bad boys
~~~
For them, we are a chance to see
Beyond their small life by the sea
To live life more adventurous
Adrenaline so dangerous
~~~
Thus, we dally in our leisure
Partaking of all their pleasures
For both, the unspoken and known
The sea will come to call him home
~~~
Beautiful girl in every port
Sailors seen as a lustful sort
But if the truth is to be told
A few each seaside port would hold
~~~
For these ladies, you need not cry
A passing ship will soon seek dry
Another worldly, salt-cured crew
Returns lustful from ocean blue
~~~
Okay, I loved this! I loved its truth and I loved how you conveyed that truth!
Oh, the heady days before STDs were permanent and fatal. Thanks, Sis!
This sounds like days of yore, with safety now at the fore
Look at you, you poet! 😁
🚢
Really loved this one! Great verses, truth and imagery…and as a Coast Guardsman I can appreciate a love of sailing and especially of the sea…I could not live too far away from her waters, I tell you…Great work my friend!
You know how it was back in the day brother! I am sure we have shared many of the same ports! Take care and stay well, my friend!
You too my friend, and have a great weekend!
Ummm……. so remember back in April, when I wrote a story that inspired a poem from you? Well……. here we are, you have written a poem that has inspired a story from me. I could picture it so vividly in my mind, a beautiful woman completely taken with a muscular man in a navy suit! Your words have a beautiful way of doing that, painting pictures so vividly. It’s hard not to fall in love with your poetry. It’s safe to say this is a new favorite! For now, at least. 😉😘
That is so kind, Kristian! How can you not fall for a guy in uniform? Kisses and hugs!
It’s hard not fall for a guy in uniform, especially when that guy is wickedly handsome and good with words! Hugs & kisses back!
Love it but I choose to believe its pirates
The original bad boys…
Haha your sisters answering in poetic form. See how cleaver you are. It is sweet that your sister is loyal and loves a great poem. This should be a song. It is so lovely and true. Living close to Ft. Bragg I saw lots of men in uniform and they all turned my head. Nicely written my friend. Love to you and be careful. Sending love and blessings your way my friend. 💕❤️🌸love Jonikins
