Leadership’s Reward

It does not come with a medal

But it gathers as much respect

No trophy to raise in the air

Or our ego to reflect

It comes with a heavy mantle

With a weight that must be born

Where others come first, a creed

In the duty that is sworn

It will take all you have to give

And a strength to see it through

Demand example in how you live

Require your words be true

Should you take up the cause

It should be seen in every deed

And that is all you will ever get

When you say that you will lead

You must sacrifice yourself

To see all others restored

The humanity you care for

Is leadership’s reward

it is the best reward of all

  2. There is an inner courage of the men and women who feel compelled to answer this call of duty, and those people should always be respected for their honor and humility! Thank you for your service, Brad! Love you!

Having the responsibility is the hardest burden, knowing that it’s up to you, not for your sake but for others, making the decisions everyone else stays away from, that is the hardest part of being a Platoon Leader. In the Army there are leaders and there are good followers, the leaders have to prove themselves at every turn, and although they say failure is not an option, it happens. Great writing, reminded me of things long past in my own life…
    Take good care my friend,
    All the best,
