Tattoo
~~~
Moments in a life
Captured in ink
Injected under the skin
~~~
A tapestry of events
Or wishful loves
Reposed in still flesh
~~~
In infinite shades
And primary hues
Time is marked permanent
~~~
A badge symbolic
If only to ourselves
Of where we have been
~~~
The canvas we own
Painted by artisan’s hand
That cannot be bought or sold
~~~
This, more than our image
Speaks of who we are
And the road we have taken
~~~
Modern hieroglyphs
Whenst mute the tongue
Still speak of the dead
~~~
There upon my flesh
Branded by cause
I color my past
~~~
It’s all there to see, a self portrait if their ever was one
Thank you, Beth. I so appreciate your support!
Oops ‘there’ – just read my answer back )
A great poem Brad, loved the imagery and although not a big fan of tattoos I do have one or two that I got back in the Army. I’m not too crazy about them nowadays, they’ve become too commonplace but, there are people for everything. Great work my friend and enjoy the holiday weekend (oops, sorry, the holiday weekend is here in Spain I don’t know if you’ve a holiday this weekend or not). In any event, all the best,
F.
Thank you, my dear friend! Our holidays are not till the end of the month, but the festive holiday spirit is already upon us. I hope you enjoy your holidays. I appreciate your support and friendship as the treasured gifts they are! Stay safe and well!
As I do yours Brad, for certain. All the best to you and you too, stay safe and well.
Good morning Brad, the symbolism in this poem is gorgeous. Our feelings under the skin, our past colored. Excellent piece. Have a beautiful Saturday. For you ❤️🌹
Thank you my kind Poetess! And these are for you xoxoxo
Thank you 🌷
Great pome, Brad! Reminds me I have a joke I heard while ago.
‘People ask me why I don’t have any tattoos. I tell them you don’t put a bumper sticker on a Ferrari.’
By the way love the word, whenst.
Thank you, Jim! I loved that joke.
It’s from Sebastian Maniscalco, one of my favorite comedians.
Most appropriate for this weekend! LOL!
Thanks Mr. G!
I love every line and when I was especially little and my father had the men from his group over I always looked to see what if any tattoos they had. I was fascinated by them. I think often in the military it is a badge of honor but most important often of a brotherhood. Lovely my friend. Take care of yourself Brad. Love ya 🤗💕❤️Jonikins
Thank you, Jonikins! They are so common now that I don’t imagine much fascination remains for them. Thank you for all your love and support. Sending mine back in truck loads!
No I am still fascinated with them. Feeling your love. Thank you Brad. Love ❤️🤗💕😘Jonikins
the description of a tattoo on the skin is so beautifully described brad. 👌
Thank you V!
