Early Riser
~~~
Dawn draws nigh
As time goes by
And I am left here wanting
~~~
Nothing worse
Than tragic curse
For the words I am hunting
~~~
Metronome
In monotone
Counts down to an end
~~~
War profuse
In words to choose
And the time I spend
~~~
It’s no fun
When left undone
The poem I came to write
~~~
Pen will cease
Its thoughtful tease
With the coming light
~~~
Tough it seems
That in my dreams
Words have their own wills
~~~
Work does call
For after all
Its what pays the bills
~~~
work is always getting in the way )
I work to feed my poetry addiction…😁
There you go –
I am glad you do or we wouldn’t get to read such pieces. This one really hit home with me because I get an idea and it is usually at night. I write a few lines but often it is revisited the first few lines that I can finish. Great piece I am guessing most poets feel similarly. You described it beautifully though Brad. Have a lovely day. Sending a lot of hugs and love your way. Jonikins
Thank you dear Jonikins! It is nice to know I am not the only one. Hugs and kisses!
You are not alone believe me regarding this challenge. Sending hugs and kisses back. Thanks for those I miss getting hugs from friends. So another really strong hug. I am not one of those one arm huggers I am all in. Maybe it is a southern thing but we are big huggers. Love ya Brad, Jonikins
Oof! I felt this one!! Although, I am currently not working, the thought of the mundane has my skin crawling, but we do what we must, and such is life, all things require balance!
I find it so interesting how people are wired differently, and we can all be productive in our own ways. Are you an early morning writer, Brad? I used to have students who could concentrate, despite all kinds of noise and different activities happening in my classroom. I could never do that.
Yeah, Pete, mornings are my quiet time!
perhaps work may also inspire some of your poetry, so maybe it does more than just pay the bills… 🙂
Good point, Mr. Q!
I too rise early. It is the only way to get things done. Work also always makes me cut things short.
Thank you for reading, commenting, and sharing the pain. I still love those early hours though!
