The Unbeliever’s Prayer
~~~
Listen, I know it has been awhile since we talked
I have long believed you are not there to hear me
But if I have ever had my doubts, they come now
I will place this ounce of hope on bended knee
You already know why I come to ask this of you
If you are really you, somewhere way up there
They said you were caring kind, a God of love
Will you please show your children how to care
Amen…and thanks!
It seems somewhat ironic to me that we humans mess this shit up, and then expect some higher power to reach down and fix it for us. I too would love the higher power I believe in to fix this, but my expectation is that given the freedom of choice, We all need to suffer the consequences of our actions.
A very valid point Sis!
We all have a hand in this, but also need all the backup help we can get
So true Beth! Thanks for reading, commenting, and your constant support!
Beautiful
Thank you, little one!
I think we were shown. Too many simply choose not to.
Good point, Mr. G!
Amen my friend, and a beautiful prayer.
Thank you brother!
My pleasure my brother!
It’s a sad, sad world we live in. I know there are good people out there, but I come in contact with so many who aren’t, (don’t we all?) It’s so discouraging.
It certainly can be. The kind of times that could find an atheist kneeling in prayer.
seems like a reasonable request…
Thanks Jim!
I’m picturing this request going right to the top. 911—What is your emergency?
You are too funny Pete! Thanks for all your support!
Oh wowza, what a fine piece of ‘from the heart and soul’ writing.
Thank you Jael!
Most welcome 🙂
This is beautiful and honest!!
Thank you kindly!
This reminds me of Hebrews 11:6 which says, “Moreover, without faith it is impossible to please God well, for whoever approaches God must believe that he is and that he becomes the rewarder of those earnestly seeking him.”
Prayer is a powerful tool of communication. But if we don’t believe God exists and don’t have confidence that he hears us then he can’t expect an answer to our prayers. We have to show faith first and then can have confidence that our prayers are heard and will be answered (1 John 5:14).
Even outside of Judeo-Christian theology, faith can be a powerful thing. Thanks for reading and commenting!
