Lady Liberty

~~~
Birthed in the want of self-rule
Under the weight of tyranny
A newborn needing great care
Our precious child, Liberty
~~~

Swaddled in a fledgling nation

Where brave dead gave her hope

Men struck words, a rule of law

Democracy born by the vote

~~~
Two centuries we have fought
To keep her safe as she grew
On foreign soil, patriot’s blood
So, they can know freedom too
~~~

Elegant strength graces harbor

Beaconed torch in her hand

Our welcoming woman, Liberty

How proudly she now stands

~~~
But strength is always tested
And she cannot stand alone
We must stand for each other
And this nation we call home
~~~

    Your last stanza sums things up nicely. We always need to speak up for the oppressed.
