Bullseye
~~~
You have been at this so long
My heart looks like a pincushion
A mass of tiny fledgling holes
Bleeding from repercussion
~~~
Your pudgy little cherub face
All smiles as you draw your bow
But where that dart will land
You have no way to know
~~~
Given tiny wings to flit about
As if an angel you are
But all your arrows leave behind
Are the deepest of the scars
~~~
You are not a welcome guest
You are a crazy toxophilite
Target a more loving heart
Get your aim just right
~~~
Every time we have had this dance
I was left feeling just more stupid
I must avoid your archerโs trance
I must avoid the sadist Cupid
~~~
‘toxophilite’ cupid – amazing word usage
I put that in there just for Jim B. He loves looking up words….๐ Thanks for all the support and kind words Beth!
Me too!
Yes, that was the first thing I did – look up toxophilite. I can see where the lover comes from philite, but I don’t see the connection at all between archery and toxo!
And here I always thought of Cupid as a friendly little cherub. Who knew she had a dark side!
“Toxo” comes from the Greek word “toxon” which meant both arrow and bow. Hope that helps! As for Cupid’s dark side, I am sure most of the misfires are certainly unintentional and without malice…๐
thanks for the clarification on toxon! Thanks for restoring my faith in Cupid! ๐
So sad. Sadder yet, I totally understand this feeling!
Thanks sis!
There is a lot of truths in this piece. We donโt really choose who we love in many ways. It just happens. Often it can be very cruel and hurtful if the person isnโt who they pretended to be. Great piece of writing though sad. I hate the thought of anyone hurting your sweet heart Brad. Have an amazing day and sending extra love and warm hugs today. Love Jonikins
Thanks Jonikins! But don’t you worry about me. I am tougher than I look.
I would never underestimate you my handsome friend. We have all had some hard lessons to learn in regards to love.
Have an amazing and blessed weekend my friend. Love ya Jonikins ๐ค๐โค๏ธ๐น๐ฆ
Well I must to say that I have never read Cupid described that way! Bravo! Great work my friend!
All the best,
FBC.
Just the other side of the coin my friend! Thanks you so much for all the support!
Brilliant! Always a great pleasure Brad!
