A Gifted World
~~~
I found the world in an ocean of ink
Pressed between and bound by leather
The pens of writers that came before
Each a rich and unique tributary
That fed a sea of extraordinary
~~~
All the world had been lain at my feet
And I, all the time to truly explore
The lives that did not look like mine
Where the world seemed immense
And knowing was never past tense
~~~
History, fiction and fairytale
Offered in the succulence of prose
All that a man could ever hope become
Was there in the pages of every book
And all I had to do was look
~~~
Jet setting around the globe
To places with such funny names
And people so different than me
Nary a mile had I ever travelled
Yet the hidden of life, there unraveled
~~~
For in every world, I found on page
Mysterious, exotic, and strange
Held a lesson in the recognized
Though so different from one another
Every character a sister or brother
~~~
The pens of writers that came before
The lives that did not look like mine
All that a man could ever hope become
Were held within each printed line
~~~
Yet another tribute to the best gifted this in this world that books, but books haven’t been a possibility if not penned by the writers of past or present. I have always found solace and a much better companionship with books and the story they tell; it’s like I have lived that life or moment presented by the author. Thanks for this lovely poem Brad.🙂
Thank you, my good friend! They are the greatest gifts.
Welcome Brad
Beautiful poem about the endless universe of books
So many books, so little time. Such a lovely poem about the blissful escape into fictional worlds.
It is the only way to survive an epidemic!
What a gorgeous and whimsical poem about what the art of writing allows us to experience without ever leaving a room. Lovely Brad. Hope you have a fantastic week. Sending love and warm hugs my friend and logs to put on the fire while you travel within your books. Love ya Jonikins ❤️❤️
Who can ever write like you, I wonder. An awesome ode to the cosmos that is creatively designed.. an inspiration to all. You write beautifully superbly elaborating elegantly.
Thank you, dear Yasmin! You are so very kind!
You are very welcome, Brad.
A love for books is a worthy pursuit. And your tribute is a beautiful poem. Great work my friend!
Thanks brother!
You’re welcome my brother!
I forget who said it, but a library card may be the best investment you could ever make…
It is, as long as we still have libraries….
I hope libraries are with us for a long time…
Me too!
Books will always be a great escape. My brother and his wife lost power for most of a week a couple of years back in New Jersey. They went to a neighboring town that had electricity and hung out at the library all day.
Now that is using your head…..Thanks Pete!
Brilliant 👏 👏 👏
