Simple Wooden Box
~~~
It is but a simple wooden box
An unadorned treasure chest
Holding the rare tokens of my past
A river stone from a favorite place
That is silent to any other ear
But I hear the water that played near
An old photograph of a younger face
Someone the heart held so dear
Smudged by my long ago tears
A fatherโs ring in solid gold
That a sonโs finger could never wear
Brings a wishing he was there
My first guitar pick, now so old
Stirs an image of me with long hair
Silk shirt and platforms for flair
Ticket stub from a concert I saw
A Chinese coin for the luck it brings
A mundane array of trivial things
They would seem nothing at all
But to me they are the everythings
Found within the rememberings
An unadorned treasure chest
It is but a simple wooden box
Over the years, I’ve been able to ‘let go’ of some things that hold that kind of sentimental value – not all, but some. As much as I’m grateful for all things computer, there are times that touching a tangible memory in your fingertips is priceless.
I would agree that the tangible holds a special power to recall the lost or forgotten. Thanks sis!
I live this and have a few special things myself. I live that the box is simple, yet holds such precious treasures
Thanks Beth!
love all the memories this brings back; wonderful poem, Brad!
Thanks Jim! I think we all have those small things that mean something to us.
I think so…
I love those old boxes filled with pieces of the past. Priceless treasures! Please tell me you have a photo of you with long hair and platform shoes!! ๐๐
No, sadly I do not. I had one of myself and the lead singer and carried in my wallet for years after the band broke up. About fifteen years later I ran into Steve and with laughed for hours over the photo. I left it with him as he seemed to need more than I at the time. But I do still have a photo of me with ling hair, I just wasn’t that young….๐
Haha. It would have been a treat to see you in the full get-up. I would still love to see a photo of you with long hair, though. Do you still play guitar!?
I still have one, but I rarely get it out to play anymore.
You never cease to amaze me, Brad.
Brad this is lovely. I love the whole idea and the beautiful imagery. Such a great title too. Sending you love and hugs and once again, I am truly happy for your award. What a treat to see this. xoxox Jonikens
Thanks Jonikins!
My pleasure dear friend. Sending love โค๏ธ๐ค๐
Everyone should have a simple wooden box for their treasures.
Thanks Pete!
