Empty Hands
~~~
Is this our fate?
Reason born by enlightenment
Tethered to an instinctual animal
Steeped in the waging of war
From the dawn of time
And in every generation since
Victory found in the vanquishing
Our only tool, the stick
~~~
Are we not these men of reason?
Can we value our lives, and yet
Not value the life of another
In every person, see brother
Or does our path only lead
To what we have always been
A primal need to survive
A modern day crusade
~~~
Violence cannot hide in shadows
Reason beams a glaring light
A sun that shines on everything
And we see all too clearly
That we have so far to go
To be the true men of reason
Men with empty hands
~~~
yes, it is an ongoing struggle and journey to get there
Recent events may help us to move in the right direction….but one can only hope.
It seems that history is destined to repeat itself. One step forward and two steps back. I believe this struggle will be happening in 100 + years from now.
Probably true! Love you sis!
So true my brother, so true, we’ve a long road ahead and many millenniums must pass before we are true men of wisdom…a beautiful poem full of power, truth and also prophecy…
All the best to you Brad,
FBC.
Thank you Francisco! You are a constant blessing!
Thank you! And you’re very welcome!
Interesting poem, Brad. I like it.
And I don’t disagree. I have always been very willing to peacefully coexist with anyone. However, I will draw the line at those who intend to harm me or those I care about. In a world of sheep and wolves, you must, unfortunately, have sheepdogs.
It must be the human condition. There are always those who want to “ take.” And history has repeatedly taught us that peace at any cost always leads to slavery or genocide.
It is sad.
You make an important point Mr. G. and I agree that there is a line where pacifism must be put aside to protect your self or others. Thanks for reading and commenting!
wonderful poem, Brad, and so timely. no sticks, no guns, just an empty hand offered in friendship…
Maybe someday that will be just the way we think….but it is still a long road ahead. Thanks for all the support Jim!
I agree, it is a long way down the road…
