If E’er The Cost

~~~
We are the sons and daughters
Of a proud and vibrant nation
A lineage of warriors true and brave
That weaves through each generation
~~~

We stand watch upon the walls

While our loved ones sleep so sound

We are a million footprints left

On acres of foreign ground

~~~
We are every battle cry
Echoed through long history
We, the blood run so red
On the roads to victory
~~~

Should freedom e’er demand the cost

Tell them we did are very best

Drape us in the colors we served

We’ll go peaceful to final rest

~~~
    Nice piece, Brad. Are you ever in touch with any of your military buddies?
    • Brad Osborne says:
      No, Pete, I am not. To be honest, I put as much distance between myself and my past from a sense of self-preservation. I find it a difficult time to talk about and reminiscing does not have the joyous connotation most memories have. Now that my head is in a better place, time, distance, and the transient nature of duty stations makes it seem an almost impossible task. Thanks for asking!
        I’ve heard the same sentiments echoed by others. People who never served (like me) can’t fully comprehend what that time must have been like. I’m glad that you are in a much better place now.
      • Brad Osborne says:
        Thank you, Pete, for your kind wishes. I am in a better place now and it is thanks to the love and support of friends like you!
