If I Sleep

~~~
You will never be mine
In subtle caress and whispered tones
Those smiling eyes with depths unknown
Tangerine cheeks that beg the kiss
Full rubied lips that hint of bliss
Or lilting words from thoughts unkept
That speak my name with loving breath
The honeyed taste the coats the tongue
The beating of our hearts as one
~~~

You are just a dream divine

A silent wish from this lonely heart

The tragic horse before the cart

Your portrait remains but faceless

An elusive, shimmering oasis

A thing of beauty from ancient lore

Professed by every poet of yore

And the worst of it, it seems

You exist, only in my dreams

~~~
If it is my company that you keep
Please don’t wake me if I sleep
~~~

    Oh Brad, this is divine – I love this piece, it is my favorite of your romantic pieces! They are all so good but this piece is framed in a museum, put to music, or – my emotions the first time I saw the Nutcracker, my first ballet. BRAVO my friend. Sending buckets of love and hugs, Jonikens

    I never seem to have dreams like this. Lots of times they are rather nonsensical. I’d be an interesting case study for some psychologist.
