Upon the Soul

I know pain

We are old friends

I know rain

And the aches it sends

I have bled

The scars still remain

I’ve felt lead

Sent with an aim

I have broken

More bones than hearts

Ivory poking

Out of flesh torn apart

I know the chill

Skin and cold steel

Yet colder still

The pain I now feel

When a heart

Pierced by loving words

Now falls apart

When the silence heard

Nothing ruins

The body left whole

Than fatal wounds

Upon the soul

  1. The pain we feel that shows no outward scars is far deeper and longer-lasting than those which do heal, even if they leave scars behind.

a broken heart is more difficult to deal with than a broken bone… beautifully said, Brad!

You’ve said it quite well Brad, like the artist you are!

Truly beautifully written. I guess sometimes even a very bad wound does heal but a truly broken heart may never mend. This is lovely Brad. ❤️🤗sending my love to you, Joni
