Laundry
~~~
Toting the scraps of a well-worn week
The pile of costumes rainbow hued
Down wooden steps with weight each does creak
Drudgery the overbearing mood
~~~
Pocket jingles with a horde of change
White metal workers fill each long wall
I hope there is no one a bit strange
The bane of having come here at all
~~~
Join the throng of the domesticized
Eyes glued to cell phone or tiled floor
Unrelated but amalgamized
Task the only reason they come for
~~~
The stagnant drone of machinery
People watching, time passes away
Such a chore it is to do laundry
What waste of morning Saturday
~~~
You summed that up so well! Great job.
Thanks Joy!
I am so glad that I am married and do not have to do laundry! Good work my friend, you’ve captured that dreary task so well, as an artist should.
Thank you kindly, brother!
You’re very welcome my brother!
wonderfully penned
Thank you, Tanvir!
Brings back memories!!!
what a perfect turn of descriptive phrase
Thank you Beth!
Yes, laundry is definitely one of those tasks that ends up eating away a lot of hours in the day. Separate loads, fill washers, add detergent, insert coins in slot, press ‘start’. And then wait, bored but unable to get involved into other tasks, until the timer sounds. Remove clothes from washer, put into dryer. Insert coins in slot, press ‘start’ (wait, didn’t we just do that?). Wait recommended time for clothing to finish drying, fold/sort, take up those stairs and put away or hang up. To make you feel better, I have the same situation, but only one washer and dryer for the 6 apartments, so there have been times I’ve done twice as many steps and taken twice as long to do my laundry. The grass is always greener…..
The grass is always greener….π Thanks sis!
for whatever reason, I don’t mind doing the laundry. it’s a chance to have my mind wander aimlessly while doing the folding… but I will agree it’s much easier when you have a washer and dryer of your own…
Folding laundry provides one chance for me to focus my mind away from its aimless never ending wandering.
to each his own π
You say that like it is a good thing….
That may well have something to do with your long and happy marriage…
that may be true… π
Not a waste if it produces produces posts like this one!
Thanks Geoff!
Wow Brad you just put yourself in a laundry mat. What a cleaver piece about the task of doing laundry. It can be time consuming and not such a fun way of spending your day. However I too find the folding of the clothes to be relaxing. I love the way you describe the costumes. So cleaver. Your prose even does laundry proud. Hugs and love, Jonikins β€οΈπ€β€οΈπ€π
Weird how some places that should be perfect for conversations somehow miss the mark.
Thanks Pete! It does seem strange how it is not a great place to socialize, but it is a great place to people watch.
Only you could take something as mundane as doing laundry and turn it into poetry! So well done!!
I got a lot of reading done while I waited for my laundry to finish. Now that I have my own washer and dryer, I do other household chores. Sigh, I prefer reading.
Thank you, Kristian! Leave it to you to find the bright side of laundry day!
I always look for the silver lining in anything unpleasant or ordinary. π
