Remember Only the Good
Speak not of sorrowed seasons
Untold the many reasons
That which led to our demise
And the tears that stained our eyes
Remember only the good
Loving the best that we could
We held on for many years
Pushed through many silly fears
Though now we are not lovers
New lives have been discovered
Do not see this as an end
But the best of being friends
Hope, I might, to have you still
Strength emboldened by sheer will
To be an ear always there
Speaking now with greater care
Find you will your greatest joy
Built upon what we destroyed
That which we choose to sever
Was not meant for forever
some pairings are not meant to be forever, but nonetheless, hard to sever
Thanks Beth! Forever things are few and far between.
These words ring true in my life, and I’m certain for other readers too. What a beautiful poem.
Thank you! That is kind of you to say.
You’re welcome!
seems like the perfect way to end a relationship, and to then start a new one. all with the same person….
I love your take on this. Thank you, Jim!
I read those words several times. So much to absorb. Well done.
Thanks Geoff!
Lovely verses my friend, profound indeed…sometimes love ends…
Indeed it does. Circle of life, so to speak. Thank you my brother!
Yes, definitely so…you’re very welcome and all the best!
Relationships change, sometimes for the better. It could be better in the long run even when we may not feel that way at the time.
There is great wisdom in your words, Pete. Thank you!
This is so beautiful Brad. I love that you are willing to look at this aspect of a relationship that did not go further:
“Though now we are not lovers
New lives have been discovered
Do not see this as an end
But the best of being friends”
That never worked for me. When I love I love passionately and I can’t keep my hands off of someone I love that way. I suppose that might be sad for some people to hear that but I am just being honest. I admire that you can do this. Perhaps now that I am older but I still don’t know. Still what a beautiful piece of writing. Love and hugs, Jonikins
Thanks Jonikins! I will admit I am no better at keeping a friendship at the end of a relationship than you are. But there are those who seem to be able to do it.
You are a passionate poet I would be surprised if you could. My guess is you are all in or not in. Within reason of course. I think poets are very sensitive, I know I am. My mom always said, “Josie Karen, you walk around with your heart on your sleeve.” You are such a gifted poet Brad. It takes me a long time to write a piece with perfect rhythm and meter, yet all you work is so. Sending my love, Jonikins 🤗❤️🌹
