Do Not Cry For Me

Do not cry for me
I sleep in the bed I made
Each thought and action
Is the hand I have played
Do not cry for me
Or give concern a voice
This is not fate you see
The result of every choice
Do not cry for me
Even when things seem bad
What I must bear in life
Does not require you be sad
Do not cry for me
Save your tears for greater need
Consequences are blind at best
And what mistakes do breed
Do not cry for me
Let nary a teardrop fall
I can take what this life gives
The good, the bad, I accept it all
Do not cry for me
I shoulder no given curse
Whatever befalls to me
Someone is suffering worse

compassion and empathy
Underrated qualities these days. Thank you, Beth!
It is a beautiful poem and expresses such truths for it is always important to recognise that someone else may be in a worse position than yours. Well written my friend.
Thank you my brother!
You’re welcome brother!
I do use the idea of someone in a ‘worse situation’ whenever I get myself into a pity-party for one. It is so easy to crow with excitement when people’s choices bring them great reward, so it seems only fair that we can also feel some sorrow when people’s choices bring them ill fate. Your words are abundantly clear that each of us needs to hold our own selves accountable for our status in life at any given time; having said that, I will still feel sorrow when someone has landed in a bad place, no matter how that person got there!
Always the empath! I wouldn’t want you any other way! Love you sis!
I agree that we should all be held accountable for our actions, decisions, etc…, but I can’t help but cry when I hear of someone’s sorrow. Someone, somewhere, will always have it worse, but that doesn’t mean our pain isn’t validated. ❤
I am all for finding the compassion for other people’s situations, but less wanting it for my own. As usual, it all comes down to perspective. Thank you Kristian! Sending much love!
You are altruistic, and I love you for it, but I care about you….
You’re going to have to get use to my compassion, my dear. ❤
I need reminding of this truth. It helps me cope. You said it so well.
Thanks Geoff! I appreciate your kind support!
I like the positive attitude and the acceptance of responsibility that is present in this poem…
Thanks Jim! You have discerned the real truth I was hoping to express.
that rarely happens for me 🙂
I think it’s a much better attitude to accept the hand that life deals us and go from there.
I agree, Pete. Enough with the laments and excuses. Find where you are and decide where you want to go, and then do something about getting there.
This is so beautiful Brad. You are practical a strategist, accepting what sorrows or pain life might have sent your way. However it is hard for those that care about you not to feel bad when someone the have feelings for could be hurting. We don’t always control our fate or what others do to us in hostile situations. It is a lovely poem but I would cry for you Brad. Love ❤️ Jonikins
I understand what you are saying Jonikins, and I love you for it. Bit I can always think of people who deserve your tears more than I.
I believe we are more alike than you realize. There are a few people that I feel very attached to as I am drawn to their work. You are most certainly one of those people. I am extremely intuitive because of my childhood and teenage years. Not that I even need that to draw from as your heart and kindness is throughout your beautiful poetry Brad. Love ❤️ Jonikins
Really enjoyed this one
