Withdrawal
~~~
Love can become an affliction
If the wanting an addiction
And a heart will feel the tug
When denied the fixing drug
~~~
Just like a street-corner thug
You give samples out with hugs
The pleasures come for free
As hooked they soon will be
~~~
Blinded by your reverie
They will now pay any fee
Their lives they happy pay
To survive another day
~~~
But the evil that you play
When you take your drug away
May cause the conviction
To beat your addiction
~~~
I really enjoyed the poem for the truth of its content. I also saw a ‘rhyming’ pattern that makes me wonder if this is a schematic you’ve done before?
Thanks sis! What you are recognizing is called a “cascading” rhyme scheme. It can be found in a few recognized forms.
Brilliantly written, quite a true and powerful message, lovely work Brad!
Thank you, my friend! Best wishes to you and yours!
You’re very welcome my friend!
Sad but true. You say it well, Brad. Too good , too skilled with your words. That’s your power. You write it effortlessly.
And you, my friend, are too kind. Thank you, always, for your support and encouragement!
My pleasure always .
My pleasure always !
ah, the pain of love – so well put
Thanks Beth!
clever; it’s a shame when peope play games with the power of love…
Too true. Thank you, Jim!
It’s a dangerous and slippery slope when people manipulate one another by withholding love.
That it is. Thank you, Pete!
