My Brother’s Keeper

~~~
The greatest philosophy
Is to care for one another
Possessive by apostrophe
I, the keeper of my brother
~~~

In every act and deed confessed

No matter how seemingly small

Gift to others that they be blessed

So, all of us can stand more tall

~~~
What needs have I, in my life
That preclude a caring mind
Anonymity must not be the knife
That leaves humanity behind
~~~

For in every tear from an eye

Left alone, helpless and crying

Kept from falling, willing deny

A part of ourselves lies dying

~~~
We are one, though differences be
And there is the truth we discover
That is the definition of humanity
And I, the keeper of my brother
~~~

  1. Amen! With the current upheaval in our country, even caring for another is sometimes divided by politics, race, religion, etc. We need to just see a person in need as human. As Dom LaFerlita wrote in his song, “United”, we all bleed the same blood.

    we are one indeed, and need to act on that –

    I recently read in the book “Earth Medicine” by Jamie Sams about her belief that we can survive many difficulties, but if we are cut off from caring relationships, then we tend to wither away and die.

    I will never understand those that can look at someone and fail to see the human spirit that dwells within, nor do I want to. This is another poem the entire world needs to read. Please write a book! 😘

  5. I agree with the comment that you need to write a book (if you haven’t already done so).

    “My Brother’s Keeper” is itself a keeper. Well done (and then some).

    As my good friend Nancy says, “The greatest gift is the gift of yourself.” That usually means looking out for others who could use a helping hand.

    This is truly beautiful Brad. I love this piece.

    “For in every tear from an eye
    Left alone, helpless and crying
    Kept from falling, willing deny
    A part of ourselves lies dying”

    What truth comes from these lines. Sending my love. ❤️🤗🦋Jonikins
