How Can This Be?

I see you

But we have never met

I hear you

But we have never spoken

I feel you

But we have never embraced

How do I reconcile feelings

Borne solely in the imagination

Where all I hope exists as true

And reality gives its resignation

I dream of you

But I have only a face to see

I want you

But only in the safety of inaction

I need you

But I don’t know what you need

Is this connection truly real

Does love always find a path

Or is this the heart of a lonely man

Messing with his head for a laugh

I am smitten

But that may be an easy thing

I am enchanted

But by all that I have dreamed

I want to love you

But I don’t want to fall for my lies

there is always fear in loving someone, even from afar. i’d say let it all play out as it may, and watch how it unfolds

I believe the connections we feel to people are real, no matter how far away they are. I agree with Beth, let the cards fall where they may.

I like the form of this style of poetry. Not sure if I’ve seen it before.
