I Walk Alone

It has been a long, hard road

With many miles walked alone

Bearing the weight of the world

On tired and weary bones

Looking at my past

To the ones that I held dear

Two set of footprints in the sand

Till one set disappears

Love has come and gone

Though promises always made

I had hoped you’d be my sun

But I am left here in the shade

What of the next sunrise

Dawn beaming in all its glory

When I fear it will not last

To be the end of my story

It is hard to see a future

Unlike the past I have known

And therein lies the greatest fear

That I am destined to be alone

But if that is what fate dictates

I, left the lonely man

Then I must make the best of it

One set of footprints in the sand

oh, don’t stop walking now, keep going around the bend and you might be surprised by the footprints you find

Beautifully written , Brad. I love your work.

  3. Is it truly destiny that we might end up alone? I am alone by choice, by the choices I have made along the path of my life. I feel we do have some say in it, that it’s not just destiny.

I would agree, but choice is so much less poetic than destiny. If I were describing someone alone by choice, you may not be as moved emotionally. Love you, sis!

at least your footsteps have not yet disappeared, which should give you hope..

  6. One never knows what is around the corner, just a few of those lonely steps away…

I think it’s wise for everyone, whether we’re in a relationship or not, to be comfortable enough with ourselves to walk alone. No one and nothing is ever promised to us. With that being said, there certainly is nothing wrong with hoping the fates will intervene and put someone in your walking path. I hope you find what you’re looking for, and in the meantime, I hope you enjoy the journey. Sending you lots of hugs! ❤

Thank you for the uplifting words, my friend! I can assure you my journey is everything, whether there is one set of footprints or two. Sending you much love!

    The uncertainty of life—no guarantees.

  9. While looking down for footprints in the sand, me must not forget to look up to the light as well.

Dearest Brad you have to take a chance. Send this lady you are thinking of a few of these beautiful romantic poems and she will indeed be smitten. Gorgeous Brad. Sending my love, Jonikins

    • Brad Osborne says:

If only it were that easy, my friend! Thank you for all the kindness and love. Sending you my love in return!

It never is my friend I know. Often the real thing is never as good as our fantasies or the way we remember it being when we were in a relationship. Your writing is so beautiful now Brad with a full time muse you would either become very famous or you would be too busy to write. I don’t see that ever happening. Have a blessed and wonderful week my friend. My love to you. ❤️

      • Brad Osborne says:

Thank you for all the support and love, Jonikins!
