The Abyss

Each small step we take in life

Leads to an unseen abyss

Deep chasm cut by time’s knife

Where heaven and hell exist

Life sands through hourglass pour

And though fate cannot be seen

More distance we may implore

But our time lies in between

We fear it less far away

Unseen in the long distance

Getting closer with each day

Our time an unknown instance

When life leads to subtle rise

Then on that odd occasion

We can see what ahead lies

Glimpse fatal destination

Or passing of a loved one

When we stand on precipice

Reminded of things not done

Our lives just as frail as this

And times when our path treads near

The edge of the dark divide

Our mortal passing we fear

An unknown the other side

Fear not this foreboding ledge

Between you and your demise

Peer long over darkened edge

See life behind with new eyes

All will meet this end some day

But fear replaced with knowing

What we do along the way

A greater joy bestowing

Take this with you as path turn

Puts the end in the distance

If this truth in life you learn

It will make all the difference

This is a classic beauty Brad. What a lovely piece about life. The living of it, the sharing of it, making it worthwhile and the end of everyone’s life. The one here anyway. Just such wisdom and truth in your beautiful poetry Brad. Have a blessed day and great week ahead. Love Jonikins ❤️🤗🦋
