Time Sighs
~~~
The sunset pulls colors across the sky
Like a child pulling salt-water taffy
Stretching the joy of summer days
White sands bow the aquamarine
Blue waves curl like ribbon candy
To murmur and laugh on the shore
Mixed with splashing feet at play
Kingdoms rise wrought by little hands
Sculpted by imagination
Hibiscus kisses the air sweet
And lovers say secret words
A fisherman casts his line
Bearing the bronze of his trade
Shimmered vessel plies the horizon
Like a snail on a wrinkled leaf
And time sighs, just for a moment
That you may savor life’s beauty
Your words literally stopped time for me as my mind grasped every visual you offered. Thank you for the momentary escape!
Thanks, sis! It is all about the moments.
I love the phrase ‘time sighs’ – that’s just perfect
Thank you, Beth!
Your poetry is making it very difficult for me to skim. Sigh.
Thanks, Geoff! I guess you will have to leave the skimming to shady accountants.
Perfectly written! 😍
Thank you, Kristian! You have been on my mind!
You are welcome to reach out to me any time I enter your mind. ❤🤗 I think about you often, too!
I think this is one of your best pieces, Brad. The simile, “The sunset pulls colors across the sky like a child pulling salt-water taffy,” is perfect. I know it’s not in your nature to boast about your work, but I wonder if you feel the same way I do about this piece.
Thank you, Pete! Hard for me to say where this falls amongst my other efforts. It is much more about the imagery than others that I can say.
A piece for all the senses Brad just beautifully descriptive. ❤️
