The vessel has seen its last

To ground, the body cast

Yet the spirit does remain

Now free from every pain

Witnessed by angelic eyes

A loving son still survives

Burdened by the loss

Bearing a troubled cross

For him, time still a measure

But she has become the forever

Something that will always be

Though vessel you do not see

And, if to him she could speak

Whispered in a kiss to cheek

Forever could be explained

As the her in him retained

Then simpler words would do

For this mother’s love so true

“It has always been this you,

that my forever holds onto.”

  3. Hi Brad, I can never forget this poem, I have in fact taken a print out and framed it ( I hope that’s fine), reminds me of a lot of things and of course your ode to mother! Thank you for the repost, this one even though written by you, forever will belong to me, and I only ask you to allow me that for only this one ethereal piece!
