I Walk Alone
~~~
It has been a long, hard road
With many miles walked alone
Bearing the weight of the world
On tired and weary bones
~~~
Looking at my past
To the ones that I held dear
Two set of footprints in the sand
Till one set disappears
~~~
Love has come and gone
Though promises always made
I had hoped you’d be my sun
But I am left here in the shade
~~~
What of the next sunrise
Dawn beaming in all its glory
When I fear it will not last
To be the end of my story
~~~
It is hard to see a future
Unlike the past I have known
And therein lies the greatest fear
That I am destined to be alone
~~~
But if that is what fate dictates
I, left the lonely man
Then I must make the best of it
One set of footprints in the sand
~~~
I would say – never give up
I am not sure “give up” is in my vocabulary. Thank you, Beth!
You have always had a way of tugging at my heartstrings with your hauntingly beautiful verses.
Tug on them? I want to swing from them like a circus trapeze artist! Thanks, Kristian!
Well, you often make me wish I could leap through the screen and hug you. You have a permanent hold on these heartstrings of mine. Swing away! ❤
(Insert Tarzan call here)
😂🤣 You crack me up!
I was all set to comment about the melancholy sense from these words… until I scrolled through all of the comments and imagined your vocal Tarzan call, and then I was laughing and smiling too much!
The old one, two punch! Thanks, sis! Love you!
Beautiful verses! Brilliant work 👏 my brother!
Thank you, my dear friend!
My pleasure my brother!
I really don’t know how you do it. Each piece of writing better that the last. Keeps getting better. I am baffled as to which poem of yours I like the most. I can’t decide because they are all so good.
Thank you, my friend. You are too kind with your words. I would have no easier a time trying to pick a favorite of yours. And I appreciate all your support and generosity.
Always welcome, Brad.
And thank you to you too for your continued support and encouragement!
Lovely take on the footprints in the sand imagery.
Thanks, Bridgette!
