I’ve said this before, in a number of ways: When I am overcome by the darkness, I don’t want, and will refuse, any hand that reaches out to me. What I need in that time is simply someone who has the courage to sit in that darkness with me. Only when someone else shows me that he/she is not afraid of my darkness am I able to begin to lessen its hold of fear on me and find my way out. (I don’t know if this will make sense, but I don’t know how else to word it.)
