Editorial – “What Have We Become”

I wrote this piece on April 4, 2020 at the onset of the Covid pandemic. Some of the thoughts and feelings I captured then have changed and, sadly, some have not.

My Brother’s Keeper

The greatest philosophy,
Is to care for one another,
Possessive by apostrophe,
I, the keeper of my brother…

Bound By Honor

The red ink of history written,
Drips long from the blades of man…

Revolution

As swords are beaten into ploughshares,
So is man wrought by the hammer of cares…

Tears in the Sand

If amidst the dry and sandy sea,
They could sit right across from me,
Would we still kill one another,
Or would we have seen a brother.

Love Light

This is not how we were made,
To cast others in our shade,
Treatment based on some earned grade,
Regardless of dues they paid.

Godless

And where you see the world as work of Great hands,
Intrinsic and intertwined Mother Nature,
Seems to move ahead with her own set of plans,
Not needing a higher-powered kind favor.

But a Wish

We, in life, can ill afford,
Our narrowed and biased views,
Where hate can cut like any sword,
From the venomous words we choose.

One Grain of Sand

You speak to me of your great deed,
How you have carved yourself into the land,
A persistent and egotistical need,
Sought by only one so frail as a man.
