Whittled Words – Anagram Poem

While reading “The Best American Poetry 2007”, I came across this very different form of poetry referred to as an Anagram poem. I was intrigued by it but have avoided it, as any thought about writing in this form made me shiver with dread at the work that may be involved.

Whittled Words – Elegy Poem

Though similar in function, the elegy is distinct from the epitaph, ode, and eulogy: the epitaph is very brief; the ode solely exalts; and the eulogy is most often written in formal prose.

Whittled Words – Biolet Poem

“The biolet was invented by the Brazilian poet Filinto de Almeida and first appeared in print in his book Lyrica in 1887. It is a six line poem, and like the triolet, the first two lines are repeated as the last two lines, however in reverse.”

Whittled Words – Chanso Poem

Chanso poems are adaptable to the needs of the poet.

Whittled Words – Minute Poem

Some forms have a long, exotic history. Others just seem to spring out of nowhere.

Whittled Words – Diminishing Verse Poem

Diminishing verse offers no origin and very few rules…

Whittled Words – Terzanelle Poem

What do you get when you mix two super popular Italian poetic forms, specifically the terza rima and villanelle?

Whittled Words – Gogyohka Poem

Gogyohka was a form developed by Enta Kusakabe in Japan and translates literally to “five-line poem.”

What is a Poem

A beg for grace in lyric tone,
Words, the sacred given throne…

Whittled Words – Awdl Gywydd Poem

I love Welsh forms, because they tend to rhyme and this form includes the challenge of internal rhymes.
