A Sad Farewell

The breeze wrinkles the black waters

Long creases of dark satin ripple

The full moon a kaleidoscope reflection

In a swarm of starlight fireflies

And the hush roars in my ears

The whispered fragrance of pine

Mingles with the damp air

Earthy and clinging like moss

A scented memory so light

Now forest ghost in the dark

The fire’s coals groan a slow death

Their warmth long gone

As blank red eyes stare

Into the ebony that is night

I stare in return and knowing

What is but a moment here

Reads like a lifetime, a pause

Before turning the page

To another dawning day

A sad farewell, come light

You paint quite the picture! I could envision the pine trees gently swaying, their scent lingering in the air as the fire slowly dies. I was right there with you, watching the embers glow! Beautifully written! 😍🔥

  4. Another winner, Brad!
