Treasure Map

The tales of old

Of treasured gold

An ‘X’ on the map marks the spot

Shovels of sand

With sweaty hand

Searching for wealth time long forgot

Isles there be

Vast tropic sea

And here they all look just the same

Windward palm tree

Cove on alee

And none of them given a name

So, sail we do

To each shore new

Hoping to find the hidden place

The loot we track

With aching back

Reveals only an empty space

A missing clue

And déjà vu

Amongst the cool and salted breeze

Then in despair

A humble prayer

Wish I could read this Portuguese

The dotted line

Length undefined

In a language I do not know

Not plausible

Impossible

Shown in each yard of sand I throw

But I’m not through

For ocean blue

Holds many of these emerald gems

I think it might

And hope I’m right

The finding is on one of them

Thank you, Vinayak! I purposefully try to vary subject and style so I don’t get into a rut and I love the challenge. As always, I greatly appreciate your words and support! 😊
