Construct of Time

~~~
Universal time beyond
What we can comprehend
And we, a flicker of life
In something without end
~~~

Only we hear the ticking

Our perception of life’s clock

As we hurl through endless space

On a five billion year old rock

~~~
That knows nothing of time
Or how frantic our short lives
It holds no great urgency
For an end that never arrives
~~~

It is sheer hubris to think

We leave behind a legacy

We are but a speck of ink

On a billion pages of history

~~~
But time is what we built
To measure and report
The brevity of our lives
In our time so very short
~~~

And within this construct

The second hand we chase

We rush to live fast enough

To win this human race

~~~
  1. These words certainly bring to clarity how fragile our time in this realm is – and the realization that billions have walked this ground before us, marching off their own finite time here as we are marching ours in the present and realize that, as we tread atop the footsteps before ours, so will future generations trod atop the footsteps we leave now. You write of a truthful perspective we all will face, whether or not we are prepared for it.
    but even if I’m just a speck, at least I’m part of history 🙂
  4. A beautiful work, so melodic and rhythmic at the same time…
    But we are more, so much more than a spec, so much more immense than the Earth and greater than time…
    If we can make a speck of a difference in history, that would be quite a contribution.
    Your verse carries so much wisdom. Beautifully crafted each word a delight to unravel and understand. A feast for that artsy senses. Construct of time is a fabulously written piece of literary art.
    Brad, this is beautiful. Each stanza speaks to me. Time,…I had an RV neighbor at my last workkamping job that was a quantum physics guru. Often deep conversations were had. Although I’ve been busy these last few days, including school visits, I don’t take one minute for granted and my pace is exactly where I need it at this point in time. Sending love and hugs dear friend. ❤️🤗🙏🏻
    Beautifully written my friend. I see this time is indeed short and we must do what we can to leave it a better place. When I leave my eternal life will begin with my Lord and I long for that day. Yet I must do what I can to try and make even a tiny difference where I tread. Sending you my love Brad. Hope the book is going well. Jonikins ❤️🤗🦋🌹
